Recommendations of Fiction Featuring Activists
We’d love to have your recommendations of books, movies, plays, short stories, TV programs and other fiction of any genre that portray activists and our lives and culture in ways that honor and illuminate our humanity, complexity, our multi-dimensional, inspiring, funny and fascinating experience.
No one work is going to be perfect, and they certainly won’t have the same take on what it means to be an activist. What we want is a body of literature that opens many windows and shines light on the way we are, what it’s truly like to be us, the details of daily life as an organizer, an environmental or anti-police brutality activist, a member of a workers’ coop or insurgent group. Any place, any time in history, any cause or struggle, as long as its goal is to help the arc of the universe bend toward justice, not to uphold exclusion, greed or oppression.
We want works of all kinds that make it possible for people to understand and identify with us. Where the author(s) make an effort to use fiction for its core purpose of bringing people into the world they have created in their imagination but have made their best effort to reflect with honesty and integrity the ideas, actions, relationships and history of the people they are depicting..
